This charity has been improving the lives of underprivileged children and women for many years through education and building their self-esteem. They feel that keeping this development in principle with the children’s best interest and focusing on girls is very important. They support children through running drop-in centres, schools, and open learning centres which go wherever the children are and teach them in parks or empty spaces.
They are looking forward to having confident volunteers that can bring creative ideas to teach English to small groups of children in the different centres. The volunteers can monitor the children’s progress and help develop learning resources, as well as using their imagination to make the learning fun. There may also be chances to help with empowering the children to increase their confidence and expand their horizons.
Your Role: You would helping to teach English various centres by taking small groups of children aged between 5 -12 and working on specific activities with them. You will be able to develop programmes for small groups of children in their non-formal schools with a focus on teaching English in a fun and interesting way. You will need to plan your lessons and help to monitor the children’s progress through your time at the project.
You can look at previous volunteer’s handouts and worksheets for ideas. Volunteers are also free to monitor their children’s progress and do class tests. Often parties are organised at the end of the trip and various projects can be displayed at an event. They are also opportunities to work in women’s empowerment projects to increase self-esteem and confidence in the young women.
Craft, drawing, and posters can all be used to make the teaching more exciting for the children and are welcomed by the charity.
What you Gain: This project provides a chance to get involved in an organisation that really values education and helps hundreds of children every day to improve their lives.
